Yohualli B. Anaya, MD, MPH, has been selected for the class of 2024 National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Fellowships.
Seven outstanding health professionals from across the nation have been chosen based on their professional qualifications, reputations as scholars, professional accomplishments, and relevance of their current field expertise to the work of the NAM and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
Dr. Anaya, associate professor in the department of family medicine and community health at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, will serve as a NAM Fellow to Advance State Health Policy, a program funded by the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment (AHW) at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Dr. Anaya is the second such fellow from Wisconsin, following MCW’s Ben Weston, MD, MPH, FAEMS, who was selected as a 2022 NAM Fellow.
NAM Fellows work with the most eminent researchers, policy experts, and clinicians from across the country to provide nonpartisan, scientific, and evidence-based advice to national, state, and local policymakers; academic leaders; health care administrators; and the public, contributing to AHW’s mission of improving health in Wisconsin.
“The Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment is proud to support Dr. Anaya’s professional journey, expanding her network of influence and providing access to leading experts in topic areas relevant to the health of people here in Wisconsin,” said AHW Director Jesse Ehrenfeld, MD, MPH. “Our support of the NAM Fellowship to Advance State Policy reflects AHW’s commitment to developing Wisconsin’s health workforce and leveraging national best practices to improve the lives of the people we serve.”
The fellows will collaborate with eminent researchers, policy experts, and clinicians from across the country during their two-year fellowship. They will also help facilitate initiatives convened by the National Academies to provide nonpartisan, scientific, and evidence-based guidance to national, state, and local policymakers, academic leaders, health care administrators, and the public.
In addition to Dr. Anaya, the remaining members of the class of 2022 NAM Fellows can be found online.
Fellows will continue in their primary academic or research posts while engaging part time over a two-year period in the National Academies’ health and science policy work. They will also work with an expert study committee or roundtable related to their professional interests, including contributing to reports or other products.
