The Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment (AHW) is pleased to announce that Ugwuji N. Maduekwe, MD, MMSc, MPH, has been named deputy director of the statewide health philanthropy. Dr. Maduekwe will begin her work with AHW on August 15, 2021.
At AHW, Dr. Maduekwe will support AHW’s ongoing efforts to address health disparities across Wisconsin, including in AHW’s current focus areas of heart health, mental and behavioral health, and cancer. In addition to her role at AHW, Dr. Maduekwe will continue her clinical care for patients as the Director of Regional Therapies for the Department of Surgery at MCW (Division of Surgical Oncology).
Dr. Maduekwe currently serves as Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology & Endocrine Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on health disparities, social determinants of health and access to cancer care.
Dr. Maduekwe earned a Bachelor of Science in molecular and cell biology from the University of Texas at Dallas, MD and MMSc degrees from Harvard Medical School, and an MPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her general surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital followed by a complex general surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
